FAQs

Rubber bushes or suspension bushes are a kind of anti-vibration mount that isolates two parts and dampen the energy transmitted to reduce noise and vibration. Fibet stocks a wide range of rubber bushes to suit all your needs.

Rubber bushes are an effective solution to help reduce the transmission of shocks and vibrations between moving machinery parts. The rubber suspension bush acts as a buffer, absorbing and damping the energy produced by these parts therefore improving the ride and handling of the vehicle. By separating these parts, the anti vibration bush minimises vibration and noise.

Anti vibration rubber bushes usually come in the form of a cylinder, encased in an inner and an outer metal with the rubber in between these two layers. They are typically used in the production of vehicles and anti vibration bushes help to control the amount of movement in car suspensions and steering joints to absorb road bumps and vibrations.

As one of the top rubber bushes manufacturers and bonded rubber bushes in the UK, Fibet has a wide range in stock for you to browse now. Our experienced, professional team is on hand if you have any questions or queries. If you are looking for industrial rubber mounts or bonded rubber bushes in the UK then you have come to the right place.

Rubber bushes are made using a number of components and operations. This starts with the metal sleeves which are either extruded, or machined to the correct dimensions before being plated, processed further to condition the surfaces where the rubber needs to attach to them and assembled into the Mould Tool.

The moulding process takes the base rubber compound, preheats it before injecting it into a Mould Tool – which contains the metal sleeves. Further operations are progressed after the moulding to size and pre-stress the rubber bush to increase its durability and life cycle.

The most common material to make mechanical bushes out of is steel or aluminium. However, for creative applications, we also manufacture the bushes with polymer outer sleeves. This reduces the weight (key element for high performance vehicles) as well as cost.

Rubber bushes are designed to be long lasting and hard wearing, and the average rubber bush will last approximately 15 years under normal conditions. The environment will affect the rubber bush lifespan, as well as the driving conditions.

Industrial rubber mounts and bushes are widely used in the product of vehicles and are used to absorb and buffer energy. They are placed between two moving parts of the vehicle, and they are vital to keep the connected pieces from moving and vibrating to help keep the wear and tear to a minimum.

A rubber suspension bush is designed to be relatively maintenance free, as they go through an intense lifecycle and durability test during the development phase of the bushes. This testing replicates the expected distance and conditions that the bush would be subjected to – and uses the very latest test rigs to stimulate these conditions.

Despite being relatively maintenance free, a rubber suspension bush is usually inspected visually as part of the servicing that is normally carried out on the vehicle. This inspection includes a check to see if there appears to be any physical damage visible on the exposed surfaces. It also includes some hand movement on the adjacent parts to check for any looseness or excessive play. While they are designed to absorb vibration, these vibrations will still have an impact over time and will slowly deteriorate.

A rubber bush is used primarily to provide the articulation of the suspension arms within certain parameters – that assure that the vehicle provides excellent ride, handling and comfort characteristics. The bush provides an isolation effect under normal undulations in the road surface, and the damper and spring provides protection to the vehicle under abuse conditions – thereby negating any damage.

This depends on the vehicle, as a large number of OEM’s would replace the bushes in conjunction with the suspension arms. This reduces the time off the road as well as ensuring that the bushes are assembled in the right orientation and position. However, on older vehicles, it is relatively easy to replace as long as you have the right tools to press out the old bushes and press in the new bushes.

There are some tell-tale signs that will indicate when you need to replace your bushes, including reduced quality of ride and handling, rattling noises, a clunking sound when you make sharp turns or hit the brakes and the vehicle might feel like it is not under full control. If you notice any of these signs, then immediately stop the vehicle and arrange for a mechanic to collect and inspect the car.
